Apricorn’s Aegis Fortress L3: An Ultra-Secure Portable Hard Drive
$409.99
The Apricorn 5TB Aegis Fortress L3 is an ultra-secure portable hard drive that is designed to meet NIST FIPS 140-2 Level 3 requirements, a standard for encryption technologies used by the U.S. government and other agencies to protect sensitive information. This means that the entire device, including the hard drive, electronics, external fasteners, and enclosure are included within this elevated FIPS Validation boundary. Made from a solid block of aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum alloy, the enclosure features snap-off uni-directional security fasteners and a membrane-style keypad, making it virtually impenetrable.
The Aegis Fortress L3 uses AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption to encrypt all data as it’s being written to the drive, ensuring that your data remains safe even if the hard drive is extracted from its enclosure. The device is cross-platform compatible, meaning it will work on any PC, Mac, Linux, or mass storage compliant system with a powered USB port, without the need for any software, drivers, or updates.
Other security features include forced enrollment, which eliminates factory-preset default pins, making it impossible for anyone to access the device without the admin establishing a unique pin. The device also has two read-only modes, which are perfect for accessing data in public settings or for applications that require data to be preserved in its original, unaltered state.
If the device detects a brute force attack, it will perform a crypto-erase, deleting the encryption key and rendering all of the drive’s data useless. The device is configurable and comes with a custom profile and mass configure feature known as Apricorn’s Aegis Configurator (sold separately).
If you’re looking for a secure way to store your data, the Apricorn 5TB Aegis Fortress L3 is an excellent choice that provides the highest level of protection available for a portable hard drive.
