Thirdly, the “float” stage is where the charger reduces the batteries to a lower voltage of 13.5 volts direct current to avoid over-gassing of the batteries. This saves you from the hassle of continually filling distilled water on your battery/batteries. Finally, the “equalize” stage is perfect for when you have more than one battery. In a multiple battery system, the batteries inevitably end up with different levels of charge.
