This device is particularly useful for newer models of portables that don’t come equipped with an Ethernet jack. It also comes in handy if you want to avoid the trouble of constantly switching a port between network and debugging purposes. The SharkTapUSB Ethernet Sniffer is designed with a ‘Test Access Port’ that allows you to view the packets of an Ethernet link directly. The device offers full support for 10-, 100- or 1000Base-T links.
The SharkTapUSB Ethernet Sniffer is explicitly designed to work efficiently with open-source software like Wireshark or equivalents. The Gen2 SharkTapUSB comes equipped with ‘carbon copy’ copper repeater technology that ensures minimal impact on the monitored network.
