Synology 5bay Expansion Unit

The Synology 5bay Expansion Unit is a flexible solution that allows you to easily add five additional drive bays to your Synology DiskStation. It supports both 2.5″ and 3.5″ SATA drives and can be used for on-the-fly volume expansion or as a local backup destination.

The additional bays in the DX517 are immediately ready to be used once connected and can be managed from DiskStation Manager on the host NAS. The hot-swappable drive trays of DX517 allow easy drive installation and replacement without powering down the system. The screwless drive tray design further reduces the time needed for system setup.

In case of system failure, the Synology DX517 can be used as a dedicated local backup solution for the Synology DiskStation. When created as a separate volume, the DX517 provides a great backup solution to its local hard disks. The synchronized system operation with Disk Station ensures there is no interruption during volume expansion.

It is strongly recommended that you only install drives listed on your device’s compatibility list. Storage pool and volume creation processes may fail when using unverified drives.
