Being a professional photographer, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to test the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III. I tested the camera during daylight hours at the Los Angeles Theatre and I have to say, it exceeded my expectations.
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III is a mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds, 20.4MP Live MOS sensor. The camera boasts an ISO range of 200-25600 and a 5-axis in-body image stabilization system. Additionally, the camera has a 3-inch 1.04m-dot LCD monitor, 121-point contrast-detect autofocus system, and dual UHS-II SD card slots. It can record 4K UHD video at 30p and is compatible with the Olympus Pro Capture mode for capturing fast-moving subjects.
The autofocus system worked excellently, quickly and accurately locking on to my subject. The 5-axis image stabilization system worked well and allowed me to take clear and sharp images even with low shutter speeds. The 4K video capabilities were impressive and I was able to capture stunning footage of the theater in motion.
In summary, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III is an excellent camera for both stills and video with various shooting capabilities. Nonetheless, the relatively small sensor size can constrain the image’s dynamic range.
